Episode #15 - Ska & Soul was one of our first shows we did was a Ska & Soul show, and it was one of my favorites. After starting to broadcast on Boot Boy Radio I wanted to dust it off but it was only about an hour in length, so I begrudgingly re-recorded it. I wish Rick would have been here for this one as we just have a good chemistry and a lot of fun, but in the end it was a solid show and featured both of our tastes and influences. With a name like Rocksteady Tonight we spin a lot of traditional 60's Ska and Rocksteady Music. And while there are loads of songs and artists out there, the same handful tend to crop up over and over. While I love these songs, as I am sure you do to, I decided to kick this episode up a notch. In true Rocksteady Style I decided to bust open the book of love and load up on old school love songs and then took it one step further and tried to find some of the most obscure artists, versions and B sides that I could. Figure with all the wrong going on in the word right now I could serve up some killer tunes. To quote Sham 69, If The Kids are United, we will never be divided... Winter may be a largely bust in the Northeast United States this far but there is no reason to get down about it. That just means you can more freely travel to shows without fear of weather. This Episode was an all vinyl Episode. Since getting a new record player for the show I have been dying to put together an all vinyl show. Let me tell you, it was fun, but time consuming! Though it is foreseeable that Rick and I will be doing another one of these in the near future. I like to think I have a decent stack of wax, but I am sure my compadre has a much better collection to share. Regardless though, this gives you a good insight into what I truly love in ska music. This show features a healthy selection of Rocksteady both old and new and a nice block dedicate to some really great bands which feature some even more amazingly talented women. It was a perfect storm this year and my show fell on New Years Eve. Needless to say it was an honor to ring in the New Year with the listeners in the UK and entertain the ones in the USA all at the same time. While not a banner year, 2019 was not a bad one - especially for music! It was the year Rick & I started with Boot Boy Radio, an opportunity I will always be thankful for. This show because it was on NYE was truly representative of a celebration. It featured music from all Waves of Ska and from around the world as well.
